This Dashain, your assignment is to think like a scientist, a writer, and a mathematician. The tasks are designed to be investigative, analytical, and creative, pushing you to connect your classroom learning to the world around you during the festival. 

General Instructions:

·       Submit your work in a dedicated project file.

·       Focus on clarity, depth of research, and originality.

·       Use diagram illustrations to support your work where necessary.

·       Submission Date: First week after vacation.

Science: "The Physics & Chemistry of Dashain"

Objective: To identify and explain scientific principles in festival activities.
Task (Choose ONE):

1.     Project: The Swing (Physics in Motion)

o   Investigation: Observe and/or ride a traditional bamboo swing (Linge Ping).

o   Report: Write a report (300-350 words) explaining the physics involved.

§  Identify the type of motion (e.g., periodic, oscillatory).

§  Explain the role of forces: gravity, tension in the ropes, and push.

§  Draw a labelled diagram showing these forces at three points: at the bottom, and at each extreme end of the swing.

§  How does the height of the swing affect its motion?

2.     Project: The Jamara (A Chemical Reaction)

o   Investigation: Grow your own jamara. Research the process.

o   Report: Write a report (300-350 words) focusing on the chemistry and biology.

§  What is the chemical process (photosynthesis) that allows the seeds to grow?

§  Explain the role of water, sunlight, and chlorophyll.

§  Describe the chemical change that occurs when a seed germinates.

English: "Mythology and Modernity"

Objective: To analyze narrative and practice persuasive writing.
Task:

1.     Research & Summary: Research the story behind Dashain (the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura). Write a well-structured summary (150 words) of the myth.

2.     Opinion Essay: Write a persuasive essay (250-300 words) on one of the following topics:

o   "The true meaning of Dashain is fading in modern times." Do you agree or disagree?

o   "Dashain: A Festival that Strengthens Family Bonds."

Mathematics: "Dashain Feast Planner - Budget & Geometry"

Objective: To apply ratios, percentages, and basic geometry.
Task:

1.     Budget Planning: Plan a Dashain feast for 10 people with a budget of Rs. 5,000.

o   Create an itemized list of ingredients needed with quantities and estimated costs.

o   Calculate the total cost. Apply a 10% discount – what is the new total?

o   If you spend only Rs. 4,250, what percentage of your budget did you save?

2.     Geometry in Rangoli: Design a complex Dashain-themed Rangoli (Tika pattern or a floral design) using a compass and ruler.

o   Your design must include at least two types of triangles, circles, and quadrilaterals.

o   Draw the design on an A4 sheet and label the geometric shapes used.

o   Calculate the total area covered by your Rangoli design (approximate).
