Class 8 (English Assignment)
Passage:
The Science Fair Challenge
Every
year, Riverside School hosts a Science Fair where students display creative
projects. This year, Aarya and Milan decided to build a small wind turbine that
could power an LED light. They spent weeks researching how wind energy works
and collected the materials they needed—plastic bottles, thin metal rods, a
small motor, and wires.
On
the day of the fair, they set up their project outdoors so the natural breeze
could spin the turbine. However, the wind was weaker than they expected. Their
turbine barely moved, and the LED light did not turn on. Many students were
already presenting impressive experiments inside the hall.
Instead
of giving up, Aarya suggested creating artificial wind using a cardboard sheet.
Milan waved the sheet to push air toward the turbine, but it still wasn’t
strong enough. Finally, they borrowed a table fan from the science lab. When
they placed it in front of the turbine, the blades spun rapidly, and the LED
glowed brightly. Their teacher praised them—not for having the fanciest
project, but for their problem-solving skills and determination.
Questions
- What project did Aarya and Milan create for the
Science Fair?
- Why did their wind turbine fail to work at
first?
- What two methods did the students try to solve
the problem?
- How did they finally make the turbine work?
- What quality did their teacher appreciate the
most, and why?
