Class 8 (English Assignment)
The Village Well
A small village depended on one old well for water. During summer, the water
level dropped very low. Some villagers began taking extra water at night to
store in their homes. Because of this, the well dried up even faster.
The village head called a meeting and explained that if everyone took only
what they needed, the well would last until the rainy season. Some people
agreed, but others thought, “If I don’t store water, someone else will take
it.”
Within two weeks, the well became completely dry. The villagers then had to
walk many kilometers every day to fetch water from a river.
Only then did they understand that selfish actions had harmed the whole
community.
