Class 10 (English Assignment)
Passage: The Empty Playground
When the students of Shree
Janajyoti Secondary School returned after the Dashain vacation, they noticed
something strange. The playground behind the school was completely empty. The
old swings, football posts, and benches had all been removed.
During the morning assembly, the
principal explained that the school management committee had decided to build a
parking area there. According to the principal, more parents and teachers were
using vehicles, and the school needed a safe place for parking.
Some students agreed with the
decision. They believed that a parking area would make the school look modern
and organized. They also said that during the rainy season, vehicles often
became stuck in the mud outside the school gate.
However, many students were
unhappy. The playground was the only open area where students could play
sports, practice for competitions, and spend time with friends during breaks.
The school football team had even won a district-level competition the previous
year after months of practice on that ground.
A group of students suggested
another idea. They proposed using a small piece of unused land beside the
school building for parking instead of destroying the playground. Although the
area was smaller, they believed that better planning could solve the problem.
The school management committee
finally decided to hold a meeting with students, teachers, and parents before
making the final decision. They realized that the issue was not only about
parking vehicles but also about balancing convenience, health, and students’
needs.
